How it works

Three quiet movements, six months, one book.

  1. 01

    We talk to your parent.

Six 45-minute phone conversations, scheduled at their pace — once a week, once a month, whatever feels right. The AI interviewer speaks fluent Korean and English and is unhurried. No app to download.

  2. 02

    We listen, transcribe, and shape.

Every recording is transcribed and lightly cleaned. Cultural context — places, eras, traditions — is respected, not flattened. Your parent reviews everything before it becomes the book.

  3. 03

    You receive the memoir.

A bilingual Korean–English memoir, beautifully typeset. Two printed copies — one for your parent, one for your family. Voice recordings stay yours forever.

What it sounds like

An excerpt — in two languages, one voice.

Every memoir is bilingual. The Korean is preserved verbatim where it matters most. Cultural context is added in restrained italics — never condescending, never flattening.

Chapter Two · The Crossing

어머니는 1953년 봄, 부산에서 작은 배를 탔다. 그때 어머니는 열일곱이었고, 손에 든 것은 가족 사진 한 장과 쌀 한 줌이 전부였다.

Mother boarded a small boat in Busan in the spring of 1953. She was seventeen. In her hands she held a single family photograph and a handful of rice.

(1953 — the year the armistice was signed, but before it was clear whether peace would hold. Boats from Busan to Japan were small and often unsafe.)

A note from the founder

My grandfather kept his stories quiet for ninety years. When he passed, we kept asking each other the same questions and no one had the answers.

Mannam Me exists because no family should have to wonder where their parents came from. The answers belong to your children.

— Stephen, founder

Common questions

What families ask first.

What if my parent doesn't want to use technology?
There's no app and no screen. We call them on a regular phone — landline or mobile. The AI interviewer is patient, speaks Korean fluently, and won't rush.
Is this AI-generated, or written by a person?
Both. The AI interviews and drafts; the founder personally reviews every memoir for cultural accuracy and tone before delivery. A bilingual editor reads the final draft.
What if my parent is shy or doesn't have many stories?
Most parents say this and then talk for hours. The interviewer adapts to their pace. If after the first session it isn't working, the 90-day refund covers you fully.
Can I review the memoir before it's finalized?
Yes. After session three, you receive a halfway preview. The full draft is reviewed by you and your parent before printing.
Who owns the recordings?
Your family. We store them securely, you can request a copy or deletion at any time, and we delete everything within 7 days of a refund request.
